A Learning Series and Workgroup for Early Childhood Funders

Established in collaboration with Early Childhood Funders Collaborative, this work group creates a space for early childhood funders — local, regional, and national — to deepen their understanding of state and federal revenue and tax policy as foundational drivers of early childhood programs and systems, and to explore how early-childhood focused philanthropy can engage more intentionally in this arena.

Work Group Purpose:  Create a space for early childhood funders — local, regional, and national — to deepen their understanding of state and federal revenue and tax policy as foundational drivers of early childhood programs and systems, and to explore how early-childhood focused philanthropy can engage more intentionally in this arena.

Topics & Themes

The ECFC Spring 2026 in-person member meeting generated several topics that Work Group participants are interested in exploring together:

  • Messaging on taxes – focusing on the connection to early childhood messaging; exploring how to engage early childhood grantees in this messaging
  • Defense and offense strategies – exploring the various defense and offense strategies at the state and local level to address tax and revenues. And, a better understanding the value-add of pairing early childhood and tax policy
  • Modeling and analysis work – documenting what tax cuts have led to; identifying what tools are available at the local level
  • Grantee engagement – what does it look like to connect early childhood grantees to broad-based tax and revenue conversations; what are successful strategies? What are the pitfalls or tension points?
  • Raising awareness of evolving opportunities at the federal level

Format: The Work Group will meet periodically over 12 to 15 months, with virtual one-hour sessions shaped by participant interest and organized around three rotating themes designed to support funders in knowledge-building and action.

Audience:  This Work Group is open to ECFC members. To register for this series contact Ami Nagle at [email protected]
