Earlier this year, the IRS and Treasury announced that they are moving forward with a Direct File pilot. The goal of the pilot is to test a new and free system that is meant to improve the process of tax filing and reduce the need for millions of tax filers to use predatory tax services.
If successful this pilot could benefit over 20 million people and nearly half of all low-income tax payers.
