The US has one of the highest child poverty rates of any developed nation. During the pandemic, an expanded Child Tax Credit (CTC) reduced child poverty by half. That expansion has lapsed and child poverty is again on the rise. There are many iterations of the CTC being considered at both federal and state levels.
The Tax Equity Funders Network, Children, Youth and Family Funders Roundtable and the Economic Opportunity Funders Network co-hosted a session with Megan Curran and Sophie Collyer from the Center on Poverty and Social Policy. Megan and Sophie walked us through different ways the CTC can be structured to maximize impact. We also covered research on how the CTC is used by families and other ideas they have for child poverty reduction.
